This allows you to pass multiple layers of thick fabric (we're talking 6-7 layers of heavy denim) through the feed. You can also adjust the pressure of your presser foot. If you have a hard time feeding fabric through, you can lower the pressure to create less tension, so you don't have to work as hard to push materials through the machine.
